World Hindu Summit 2012 Harmony to the World, from the Islands of the Gods
Posted on April 27, 2012 by balitravelnews

World Hindu Summit is an international Hindu forum functions to supervise and give a resolution based on Dharma and implement it as a real action for the issues affecting the world Hindu community and all the human beings really in need. The World Hindu Federation headquartering in Nepal in few decades before has showed off a capable organization to bring the vision and mission of the World Hindu.

The changes in governmental system in Nepal have caused a political chaos to the country. Moreover, the victory of Maoist taking over the government has caused the government to pay less attention to this forum. The forum is increasingly weakening and unable to run the main function properly. For that reason, in every meeting and conference, especially with some of the ex-committee (Vice President of WHF), there is always an initiative to continue the vision and mission of the World Hindu Federation through an organization of a meeting with the figures of the World Hindu 2012 (World Hindu Summit 2012). The meeting is going to be held in Bali, known as the Island of Gods with the motto “Harmony to the World, from The Island of Gods, Bali Indonesia.”

Through the World Hindu Summit 2012 (WHS 2012) in Bali, Indonesia, it will be possible to realize a World Hindu organization that has new power in an endeavor to save the human beings based on the Dharma way. The message and various solutions will be produced in effort to participate and make the more peaceful future to the world.

So far, the supports from many parties have been obtained to realize this forum, such as Maharaja Jayatpataka, Vice President of the World Hindu Federation (USA). He gives his approval to continue the vision and mission of the World Hindu Federation no matter with the same name or with a new name.

Some 24 letters have been sent to 24 leaders of the World Hindu Federation and 22 others to the Hindu spiritual leaders that attended the Parliament of the World Religions 2009 in Australia. In addition, the support also comes from the Committee of the Bali Ashram Union consisting of 44 ashrams across Bali.

Ultimately, the support is also given by the Governor of Bali, Bali Government Tourism Office, and rector forum of the universities throughout Bali. Hopefully, from now on until the implementation of the event, the other supports will be given to the idea of making Bali the permanent secretary of the World Hindu Council.

Heading back in October less kids this year. Only staying 8 nights this time and after some kid less stuff to look at/do. Do tell of your memorable Bali experience that is best tried without kids. We have done white water rafting, dolphins, safari park, waterbom, Jimbaran dinner, temple, Ubud etc, etc. After some out of the way sight seeing/cultural experience.

We usually stay in Legian and are again this trip. Possibly heading to Sanur to check it out for a day (Sunday session at Ducks Nuts sounds ok).

We are in our 40's and staying at Suriwathi in Legian and are fairly familiar with that area.

Axer Mon

Re: Bali- Legong dance

Legong Dance and Bharata Natyam

Legong is one of Bali’s traditional dances. It’s been considered royal entertainment ever since it originated in the 19th century. Danced by two rigorously trained adolescent girls, it tells one of the stories from Malat, a collection of heroic romances.

Classical Legong enacts several traditional stories. The most common is the tale of the King of Lasem from the Malat, a collection of heroic romances. He is at war with another king, the father (or brother) of Princess Ranjasari. Lasem wants to marry the girl, but she detests him and tries to run away. Becoming lost in the forest, she is captured by Lasem, who imprisons her and goes out for a final assault against her family. He is attacked by a monstrous raven, which foretells his death.

As a form of Balinese dance, Legong is a refined dance form characterized by intricate finger movements, complicated footwork, and expressive gestures and facial expressions. “Legong dance might seem to Bharata Natyam and other Indian dances to people who are familiar with the Indian dance culture. No wonder I guess, seeing as Bali is a Hindu island and must have been influenced by the continental Hindu culture,” write Magu Bee on her blog recently.

Historically this dance is develop in the Balinese Palaces (Keraton-keraton in Bali) at 19 century, the idea of this dance is starting when a prince from Sukawati that had the illness hard dream and see two beautiful girls dancing with the graceful accompanied by the beautiful Gambelan. When the prince recovered from the illness, the dreams that he had are set in the repertory dance complete with the gamelan.

The legong dance basically is a dance which has complicate structure in body, eyes movement. Legong came from the word “leg” which means the complicate movement from body, foot, hand and eyes. It is similar to Bharata Natyam dance, too.

And “gong” means gambelan, so LEGONG is a dance in complicate movement body from the dancer which followed with the instrumental Gambelan which calls Gambelan Semar Pegulingan. Gamelan is a set of instruments typical for Bali, consisting of, among others, xylophones, drums, gongs and bamboo flutes.

The dance itself is rather dynamic with many short cut movements. All the majesty of the steps and well-studied face expressions convey very intense emotions.

It’s also amazing how much coordination between the two dancers is needed. Anyone whose done dance will know the amount of work that comes with it. Especially those parts of the performance were danced with eyes wide shut and not only standing in one place, but also moving around the stage.

At the beginning, this dance are dancing with two girl which is had not menstruation yet, virgin and dancing in the yard of Keraton down in the moon light and bring out Kipas (fan) and in the development it had a additional dance which call Condong the other structure of this dance are Papeson, Pangawak, Pengecet, and Pakaad.

Unfortunately, in beginning of 20 century this dance had lost it popularity because there is new dance creation which made. So there is some effort done to awakenings this dance for the example dug all the ancient documents which typing about the Legong dance, find senior Legong dancer to learn and practice, doing performance in important places such as art center, hotels, villas and even thought to all over the globe word so this dance knowing and survival.

Kinds of Legong dance
There are many kind of Legong dance which these dance take some theme which presented in dance here some kind of Legong dance: Legong Lasem (Keraton); Legong Jobog; Legong Legod Bawa; Legong Kuntul; Legong Smaradahana; and Legong Sudarsana.

Each of those dance are has the own characteristic like Legong Lasem it tell about the stories from Prabu Lasem which kidnap the princess from Daha. Legong Jobog it tell about the stories from Sugriwa and Subali from Ramayana epos, Legong Legod Bawa it tell about the stories from competition Dewa Brahma and Dewa Wishnu when searching for the secret commemorative Dewa Syiwa, Legong Kuntul narrate a pair of heron, which occupied sociality, and Legong Sudarsana tok the stories about Calonarang.
